I learned today that I should label my traced and altered patterns with not only the pattern # and view, but also with who it was for, and maybe even what alterations were made.

Actually, it'll be View D of 4076.  I've done this one a couple of times already.  But this time around it will be for a friend who's sized differently than me.

I had been using the pivot and slide method to adjust my patterns.  It's been so long that I've forgotten a lot about how that works.  I've pulled out my "The Sew/Fit Manual" to review, and am getting a copy of "Pattern Fitting with Confidence".

Maybe this time I'll stay in practice.

Going to start on another version of Simplicity 4076 today.  View C this time.  Not because it's New Year's.  Well only that I have the day off and just finished another project recently.

New Year's seems a good time to get back into my sewing though.
I finished one project recently, and am about to start on another, and realized I haven't posted anything for just over two years.  Has it really been that long?

The project I finished was a faux wrap skirt for my sister.  I'm not sure I even have any pictures of it that I could post.

I've turned into a sewing slacker.

Orc! Not Shrek!

Took me longer than I thought, but here's a pic of the finished Orc costume with hubby inside it.  And no, he's not Shrek.  See his ears?  Those aren't Shrek ears.  :-)

"Orc" is almost done

The Orc costume is almost done.  Tunic is complete and the breeches are all seamed up.  Just need to put the elastic in the waistband and "distress" the hem a bit.  Pics will be coming in a few days (want to get the full effect with the make up and everything).

Went to the plastic surgeon today.  Turns out the ER doc was wrong (according to the PS) - no 3rd degree burns, just bad 2nd degree burns.  Which is really good news - no need for skin grafts or anything like that.  Everything is healing up nicely and should continue to do so.

Look ma, no hands!

Hit a bit of a snag on my husband's Orc costume.  I burnt my left hand badly last week - 3rd degree burns on multiple fingers and on the pad of my palm.  Spent most of the week with my hand wrapped up in gauze.  You never realize just how handy a hand is until you have one that can't really be used - especially when it's your dominant hand.

It's getting better now and I can use all of my fingers pretty well.  Well enough to get cracking on this costume anyway.

Orc Costume

The orc costume for my husband is going well.  I have the tunic all sewn together.  I just need to put some top stitching on the neck line, and some "fur" trim on the sleeves and hem.  Then I'll need to cobble together some "breeches" for him.

Got started on the orc costume yesterday.  I made hiking shirts for the family a few years ago.  I took the pattern tracing I used for my husband's shirt (Kwik Sew 3299) and altered it a bit.  Changed the neckline to be a deep v-line.  We'll use some leather lacing on that to lace it up.  Also added 7" to the length.  Just extended the original pattern down.  I'll probably put vents at the bottom of the side seams.  I've got the fabric cut out and the shoulder seams finished.
